I know its with hindsight, but its august 2008 now 10 months on from this artical, and dont some of these comments from city fans look absolutly stupid, espesially alex, id like to heare what they’re sayin today, first game 2008 season.

lets educate certain people about birmingham ,within a 10 mile region we have 5 football clubs they are aston villa,birmingham city,west bromwich albion,wolves,walsal.if you take just the average home gates of hard core supporters it adds up to about 120.000 supporters,so when the likes of newcastle,sunderland,etc i could go on,talk about the fantastic gates they get lets not forget that they are one club towns if we were a one club town we would need a stadium to hold well over a 100.000 people every week.

to feed the goat- you twat, you must have stored a lot of jealousy and low self esteem stored up in your head, you blue mancs have always lived in the shadow of bigger city rivals just like bcfc do here in brum your tiny club just cannot compete with aston villa in terms of history or silverware won , just like your small town cannot compete with birmihgham in terms of population and econmic importance,in fact the likes of leeds and liverpool are more important than you ,you want to be englands second city dont make me laugh ,just go and have a lie down in a dark room the men in white coats will be along soon. lions of aston

As a female Villa suppoter of some 35 years, I can only say that Mr. Lerner is a breath of fresh air! Small geatures such as the free scarf every Villa fan recieved at the end of last season,the Holte Pub being restored to its wonderful Victorian glory and the fact that he really seems interested in the ordinary fan, have won him many claret and blue admirers. I feel very sorry for those supporters whose clubs have been taken over by foreign buyers, and who seem to then show no regard for the ordinary supporter. Mr Lerner…You’re a star!!!!

I have no idea what has made Man City fans so jittery here. Jealousy perhaps? Randy Lerner has done a brilliant job at Aston Villa thus far. He is an historian as much as a businessman and therein lies his appreciation for, and motivations towards, the Club.

From the perspective of my fellow Villa fans here in Ireland, both he and General Krulak have been a breath of fresh air in regard to their approach to the most historically important football club in the world.

It will be interesting to see who Mr. Lerner will tie up as the Club’s new long term sponsors.

To the people who criticise it is so clear you do not know/understand the facts. Or your a blue nose who hates knowing there are only two teams worth following in the Midlands, AVFC and WBA. First and secong respectively of course.

Also. Up the Villa and Up Martin for his press conference today. Hoe good is it to see such a quality manager showing his ‘want’ to make AV one of the best.

Feed the Goat – are you having a laugh? Man City are a small time top league club at best and Thaskin is only investing in the short term so the Thai Gov’t can’t get hold of his money as it will be British assets which cannot be seized – he’ll soon be off and take his £££s with him.

As for under achieving – lets compare:

League Titles:
Villa – 7 Man City – 2

FA Cups
Villa – 7 Man City – 4

League Cups
Villa – 5 Man City – 2

European Cups
Villa – 1 Man City – 0 (although you have won the poor mans Cup Winners Cup)

European Super Cup
Villa – 1 Man City – 0

Also, this season we have filled our ground on average 96.2% Capacity compared to your feeble 87.4 % (source ITV.com) and will be extending our ground in the near future to eclipse yours.

In addition, we own our own ground – we don’t rent it from the council like the dirty council housed scum you dirty mancs are!

I wont get into debate over Frank the Scouser because his work at Man City can only be judged by City fans.

However, Feed the Goat I’m afraid you’ve allowed your blue tinted glasses to highlight how ill-informed you are.

Undersupported? Your average attendance is higher but by only 2000, and given that your rented ground holds 5000 more people than Villa Park, it could be argued that your average gate should be much higher.

Underachieving? Haven’t won anything for a while, though winning the playoff final all those years ago can hardly be considered achievment can it? Fourth most successful club in England ever here at Villa, measured against City and what exactly?

Its easy to just say Manchester is the second city, and you lot certainly are good at self publicity, but what about the facts. In terms of population, economic importance and poilitical infrastructure. In that regard Manchester exist as around 4th or 5th behind Leeds and Liverpool.

Oh but what about culture? They cry. Yes Manchester once had a musical scene back in the 80’s. Akin to the Birmingham scene in the 70’s to early 80’s. But they had the biggest band in the mid 90’s. Yawn. If thats what you think dictates second city status then thats why you’ll never be the second city.

Football and business backwater. One claim valid, one nonsense. we certainly have been a footballing backwater since Wolves and West Brom went down. Having 4 prem teams in recent history hardly compares to the herculean efforts to make Salford a hotbead of football. But Manchester? How short your memory is!

Indeed, £40million has been spent on players since his arrival in 2006 and yet Martin O’Neill is building for the future in the knowledge that despite the pressure the fans and media put on him, he is not going to be unsettled from above.

So………

Does Thaksin Shinawatra love football? He claims to, and woud look foolish not to given the time, effort and money (not to mention the abuse from the press received) he has already invested in Manchester City. Well written article Andy Learner but dont compare yourself to God’s Football Team at Eastlands.
Sad that you have to self publicise the under investment and disappointment at the underachievement with this self important club.
We do not need to proclaim our importance, your investment is not working but leave comparisons with the only Manchester club out of the equation. We leave your weak undersupported and underachieving over valued and mis managed misfits standing on every level.
Strongly suggest that you study Dr Thaskin’s blue prints on how to win hearts and minds plus investments and intelligent ownership before your whining and as for the manager, suits you sir !
Whats he spent and whats he won??????
The only second city team are in Manchester, you are in a football and business backwater, poor groundwork before the investment guy’s no good complaining now,at least the blue majority in Manchester can laugh at you
