David Villa is a target for Chelsea, Liverpool and Barcelona
Any lingering hopes Arsenal fans had of capturing Spain’s star striker David Villa have died, with the Valencia man’s transfer market price rising in the millions since his hat-trick against Russia.
That was followed by the winner against Sweden, and Valencia are now in an incredibly strong bargaining position. Los Che are set to ask for up to 40million euros for the former Zaragoza man, ruling out Arsenal who are again to avoid investing huge sums on a single player.
Barcelona, Chelsea and Liverpool now lead the chase for Villa’s signature. Barça are thought to be favourites, and with the likes of Samuel Eto’o and Ronaldinho heading for the exit, the club are looking for a new forward to lead the line and have identified Villa as their main target.
Villa has also told the News of the World that Chelsea and Liverpool interest him. Chelsea are ready to hand new coach Luiz Felipe Scolari an open chequebook while Liverpool’s level of funds is unclear following the splurge a year ago by Rafa Benítez. They would likely hold sway, however, as Villa is close friends with Pepe Reina and has demonstrated at Euro 2008 his great affinity for Fernando Torres. The pair have also formed a fantastic partnership for country.
Failing to capture Villa will leave Arsenal supporters disappointed, especially with Emmanuel Adebayor rumoured to be on the move and Cesc Fàbregas publicly stating that he would like his compatriot to join the club. Gunners fans responded positively to the quotes attributed to Villa last season, when the 26-year-old stated that Arsenal would be his preferred destination. However, with the North London side unwilling to splash the cash, Villa has turned his attention to two other members of the big four.
The bidding war for Europe’s most wanted striker is set to commence upon the end of the European Championships. With Valencia cash-strapped, the highest bid will be accepted despite the club’s obvious wish to keep him. With Villa’s departure virtually guaranteed, the only lingering question is over which of the top destinations El Guaje will eventually select.
he not gonna take barcelona ahead of liverpool he wanna play whit torres
How long do we have to wait on the eternally ‘developing young hopefuls’ who will come into their own in a few years time? JUST ONCE ARSENE PLEASE, use the money available.
Arsenal f/c are a farce /boardroom full of greedy turkeys hence no villa or anybody else of note- be glad when someone buys them out then and only then will we become a great club again- bringin the ruskie and van baston as manager and we would win everything in front of packed houses.
Great. Another player arsenal miss out on because Wenger and the board are all f####n t###s. spend the damn cash was a message delivered by countless gooner fans. many great players have been missed out on because the board are too pussy to spend big. I want you all sacked and replaced with people who do their job properly. let us down in the transfer market as usual.
It will be not funny if villa goes to chelsea or liverpool>…!wengerrr pleae sign villa! we need a great finisher like him!
arsen weger please try ang get us robinho. you can aford to villa.
As a fan of 38 years, I really cannot agree with anyone suggesting a change of either the board or the manager, especially the manager. Our rare, in fact unique stability is entirely due to the board’s and Wenger’s passionate adherence to sound principles. The fact is that Wenger has been provided with the funds. He IS the most coveted manager in club football, because his success has been achieved on a shoestring. But sometimes it s expedient to make a few exceptions.
stop crying about villa we dont need another striker.he scores against russia and sweden and you all go crazy.he played poor for valencia all year.we got plenty of strikers dont need him so put you copy of fm away and let manager buy players.he got ade for not much and could sell him for a killing,no more villa crap please.
time for Wenger to leader, he never sign a big name for club, he let arsenal going down, iam sure next season we not win anything
time for Wenger to leave

wenger always lets arsenal down on the transfer market; just look at list: ronaldo, ronaldinho, ribery, torres, malouda, yaya etc, etc. u gooners can 4get about villa.
Barca please trasfer villa and sillva to barcelona
there no dought that villa is fantastic player buth somany attcking options i dont realy think we need him. wenger does go huge names only huge talent.
andt i totally disagree with you the only reason we didnot win the title is because of injurirs not big names. we only need bring afew more players so we have more depth in our squad and bit more experience. there no garantee that have huge name is goin bring titles.
Ariani you are forgetting with no name players we where only two points behind chelsea and just four points behind manu and if we had edwardo and rvp we have scord alot more goals so youdont need have big names to experience together with huge talent.
Matthew Day doesn’t know squat about whether the Gooners are out of the running or what Valencia will take.
Villa has some say in this as well, not that the press have ever considered the facts to be important.
The silly season, it seems, is dominated by the silliest players.
samintor,
Yeah, Wenger is such a letdown:
Henry, Viera, Pires, Overmars, Petit, Fabregas, Campbell, Rosicky, Anelka, Sagna, etc., etc.
When will some fans realize that buying footballers is not like playing the fantasy leagues?
