Brazilian superstar Ronaldo heading to Stoke?

Available on a free transfer, could Brazilian superstar Ronaldo really be heading to Stoke City?

Rumours are abound that Premier League newcomers Stoke City are set to launch an audacious bid for Ronaldo, who is available on a free transfer following his release from AC Milan. Upset at missing out on various striking targets during the summer transfer window, Potters chief Tony Pulis has turned his attentions to the Brazilian legend.

It really would be a signal of intent from Stoke, although plenty of work still has to be done to secure the transfer. Manchester City have been mentioned in the same breath as Ronaldo and if they follow up their interest, then their financial power will surely dwarf Stoke out of the race.

The signing would go down as one of the biggest coups in the history of world football, and follows Tony Pulis’ incredible bids for Craig Bellamy and Theo Walcott in recent years.

It remains to be seen how concrete Stoke’s interest is, but the fact that Stoke are being mentioned in the same sentance as the former Real Madrid star shows how far the club have come under Tony Pulis.

But would Ronaldo be good for the club or have a detrimental fact? Can anyone actually see him plying his trade at relegation candidates Stoke? Let us know your views.

  5. definitely a joke although I like a comment on a stoke website that it must be him wanting to come to stoke to shovel down as many bacon cheese & butter oatcakes as possible!!

  6. This sound very much like malicous tosh to me. But as a Stoke fan I must say that a “free” Brazilian superstar would be a welcome addition. The man can can score from any situation (even when he looks like he’s not all there).

As for Stoke being “relegation candidates” well you media types no nothing outside the big four so no suprises there, but TP has never been religated and never will be.

  10. maybe i can help shed a little light on this one. Word from Milan is that Ronaldo has had offers from 2 premier league clubs, one thought to be everton, the other is (and i now this for a fact) stoke city.

basically he’s looking for a club to spend the rest of his career with and Stoke Exec Tony Scholes met with his agent miguel santian whilst in valencia recently and offered him a player/coach role which seems to have at least caught his attention.

last week he requested permission from his doctors to meet with Scholes in England to discuss the role in a little more detail - adding fuel to the fire that he is taking it very seriously indeed - even if most of us journos are taking it with a pinch of salt, at least until we know for sure that the meeting has taken place.

whether it happens or not, got to say, a very audacious and ambitious move by stoke. good luck to them.

  11. I think that Ronaldo would be a great addition to any team. You can talk bull but he has a reputation that not many can fill, I don’t even know what stoke is, I know the name Ronaldo but now stoke. So that’s that.
