Coyle: English football has a social problem

coyleOwen Coyle, who recently made the move from Burnley to Bolton Wanderers, has spoken out about the culture of abusing managers in football clubs up and down the country. Coyle led his Bolton team to a narrow victory over the side he led to the promised land of the Premier League in midweek and was subjected to a torrent of abuse, some good-humoured, some less so, for the duration of the game.

He appeared to take the abuse lightly at the time and even went over to applaud the Burnley fans, who treated him like a religious figure during his time at the club, after the final whistle. However, he has since described the manner in which football fans feel they can taunt club managers in England as a “social problem”. Coyle seems to have been motivated to make his comments after sympathising with Rafa Benitez, whose Liverpool side Bolton face this weekend in the league. The online betting suggests the Reds should win this game

Coyle described Benitez as a “fantastic manager” who has been unlucky this season with a catalogue of injuries to key players. After conceding that Bolton will need to be on top form to get anything from their clash with top-four chasing Liverpool, Coyle explained that the manner in which fans can abuse officials and managers has become an issue that needs addressing.

Although managers, players, and officials enter the world of football with their eyes wide open, some fans can take it too far and turn what should be a bit of banter into comments that border on abuse.

Meanwhile, Bolton are still chasing silverware in the FA cup after they beat Sheffield United in the last round.

However, there is still a long way to go before bookmakers can start working on the FA Cup final odds and it’s unlikely the Trotters will make it to Wembley.
