So, another Liverpool versus Chelsea semi-final awaits a disappointed neutral spectator who will still have in mind the dour clashes these pair have regularly fought out over the last few years.
But, perhaps, there is hope after Liverpool progressed from their quarter-final clash against Arsenal in thrilling fashion.

I was only five years old, but my heart and gut tell me Arsenal will repeat their 1989 feat 19 years on..
After coming home from Wednesday night’s game against Liverpool, I felt as if my beloved Arsenal had lost. Of course, we had drawn 1-1 with a good team managed by a defensive-minded genius. Nevertheless, it really did feel like a defeat.
For about 65 minutes, I watched Arsenal not only play some sublime football, but also comprehensively teach Liverpool a lesson in the art of attacking, one touch, free-flowing football.

The Champions League specialists shone again, in London on this occasion, with a 1-1 draw at Arsenal that places them well to progress through to the semi-finals. But Arsenal, despite conceding an away goal, can take heart from their recent exploits at Anfield ahead of the return leg on Tuesday.

So, thanks to Sky’s beneficent patronage of our beautiful game, we can all tuck into our Easter eggs happy in the thought that a true footballing feast is to be served up later this Sunday. Yes, staring at the tele with chocolate round our mouths will be as much effort as is required before our senses are fair emulsified by the neuron-shorting profundity of the round ball entertainment scheduled in for some brass-knobs Sky treatment.

In 10 years time the monopoly of English Football held recently by Man Utd, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool will be over. This will not happen overnight but gradually, season-by-season, other ‘big’ clubs will be challenging for domestic honours. Money continues to flood into the game and worldwide popularity for the Premiership grows each year – be patient and watch the game even out and become less predictable, as foreign investement benefits those dreaming of breaking into the Champions League places.

The race for the fourth Champions League spot took another twist this weekend as Everton slumped to a defeat at Craven Cottage as Liverpool impressed in a home win against Reading.
Liverpool now have a three point cushion over their Merseyside neighbours with goal difference also being in their favour but there will be no complacency shown from Rafa Benitez, especially as they are entering a difficult period of matches and in the remaining eight matches they are still to play five away games in comparison to Everton’s three.
